Hello, I’m Joe
(he/him)
Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern
I am currently a Master’s Student at the University of Montevallo under the supervision of Nick Fasanello, LPC
I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s student at the University of Montevallo where I also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. I operate from an existential and person-centered theoretical orientation. My counseling special interests are assisting clients with existential depression, technology addiction, life purpose, and promoting male mental health. My work is heavily informed by a passion and personal practice for meditation and spirituality.
I am a major lover of storytelling, books, movies, and video games. Growing up, my first love was Star Wars for its great myths and philosophy. This love led me to develop a passion for studying the mind, prompting exploration in psychology, philosophy, and spirituality. Not knowing how to become a professional Jedi, I settled for the family trade in music. Upon earning a degree in music, I quickly realized my passions lie elsewhere. This period of my life was characterized by deep existential anxiety, video game addiction, and a perceived lack of meaning in my life. After intense soul searching and countless personal counseling sessions, I realized my aptitude and love for therapy.
It’s these critical and formative experiences that fuel me to help others build a life that they find meaningful. To help others heal from trauma, become who they feel they are meant to be, or even simply bring a little peace into their lives is my mission. It’s my honor to walk alongside you wherever your journey takes you.
One of my favorite quotes:
“I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you…”
― Samwise Gamgee, The Return of the King, J. R. R. Tolkien
